Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mamelle.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French mamele, mamelle breast (a1134 of women and c1170 of men in Old French) < classical Latin mamilla mamilla n. (also in post-classical Latin in form mammella ). In sense 2 after American French mamelle (compare mamelon n.).
1. A woman's breast. Also figurative. Obsolete.
