attributive and in the genitive. Designating concepts (developed by Malmquist or arising out of his work) which relate to the measurement of the distance, size, and brightness of stars and galaxies. Malmquist bias n. a statistical effect occurring in the measurement of brightness and making distant objects appear closer than they are; (also) an instance of this.
