Origin: A borrowing from Italian, combined with an English element. Etymons: Italian mangia- , mangiare , cake n. and adj.
Etymology: < Italian mangia-, stem of mangiare to eat (see mungaree n.) + cake n. and adj., apparently with dismissive reference to foodstuffs regarded as typically favoured by non-Italians in Canada (see quot. 1975).
Canadian slang (often derogatory).
Among Canadians of Italian descent: a non-Italian Canadian, esp. a white person from a British background.

1975 R. F. Harney & H. M. Troper Immigrants 84/2 Italo-Canadians to this day refer to some English Canadians as ‘mangia-cakes’, cake-eaters, to imply the limits of their diets compared to that of the Mediterranean countries.
