A Turkish copper coin (originally weighing approx. 2.5 grams, subsequently dropping at some mints to approx. 1.5 grams).The coin was introduced by Ottoman Sultan Murad I (1362–89), withdrawn in 1691, and reissued under Mahmud II (1808–39). Its value fell so drastically that in 1879 it was abolished.
