Origin: A borrowing from Hebrew. Etymon: Hebrew marḥešwān.
Etymology: < post-biblical Hebrew marḥešwān (Mishnah) < Akkadian Araḫsamnu eighth month. Compare Hesvan n.The form in quot. 1602 appears to represent a misreading of Josephus' form Μαρσουάνῃ (dative). Compare also:1733 J. Court tr. F. Josephus Hist. Antiquities ii. iii, in Wks. 10/1 Marusane.
