Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps an arbitrary formation.
Etymology: Coined by the American saxophonist Roland Kirk (1936–77), but of uncertain formation: the second element is after saxello n. (presumably with euphonic substitution of -z- for pretonic -ks-); the first element is perhaps arbitrary (or perhaps after man n.1).
R. Kirk's name for: a type of musical instrument resembling a soprano saxophone, used in jazz music.The instrument is principally associated with its originator.
