单词 malefic
释义

maleficadj.n.

Brit. /məˈlɛfɪk/, U.S. /məˈlɛfɪk/
Forms: 1600s malefique, 1600s–1800s malefick, 1700s– malefic.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin maleficus.
Etymology: < classical Latin maleficus (adjective) wicked, concerned with sorcery, (noun) wrongdoer (in post-classical Latin also ‘sorcerer’ from 4th cent. in Lactantius) < male ill (see mal- prefix) + -ficus -doing, -doer (see -fic suffix), perhaps rendering ancient Greek κακοῦργος doing ill, hurtful. Compare French malefique exerting a harmful influence through supernatural means (late 15th cent. in Middle French; Rabelais refers to planets maleficques ), wicked (early 16th cent. in Middle French), Italian malefico concerned with sorcery (13th–15th centuries), malign (14th cent.). Compare earlier malefical adj., maleficial adj., and malefice n.; also benefic adj.
