Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin malefactum.
Etymology: < classical Latin malefactum, use as noun of neuter of malefactus , past participle of malefacere to do wrong < male wrongly (see mal- prefix) + facere to act, do (see fact n., int., and adv.). Compare Old French malefaite (13th cent.).
Obsolete.
