Origin: Perhaps a borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek μαραντικός.
Etymology: Perhaps < Hellenistic Greek μαραντικός wasting away < ancient Greek μαραν- , aorist stem of μαραίνειν to wither, waste away (see marasmus n.) + -τικός , suffix forming adjectives from verbs (compare -ic suffix). Compare German marantisch (1882 or earlier).
Medicine.
Relating to, associated with, or suffering from marasmus.
