Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French manchon.
Etymology: < Middle French, French manchon muff (1561; c1200 in Old French in sense ‘ornamental furred sleeve attached beneath the sleeve of a garment’) < manche sleeve (see maunch n.) + -on , diminutive suffix (compare -oon suffix).Compare the probably related forms manston, manison recorded in Scots use in the last decade of the 16th cent. (see Dict. Older Sc. Tongue s.v.).
Obsolete.
