Etymology: < post-classical Latin malaxatio (from 5th cent.; 1608 in passage translated in quot. 1657 at sense 1a) < classical Latin malaxāt- , past participial stem of malaxāre malax v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare French malaxation (1610 in an isolated attestation, subsequently from 1812).
