Etymology: < French maladresse awkwardness (1733), blend of maladroit (see maladroit adj.) and adresse address n.; the form in quot. 1856 may indicate independent formation < mal- prefix + address n. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (mælădre·s) /mæləˈdrɛs/.
Obsolete.
Lack of dexterity or tact; awkwardness.
