Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin mala fidēs.
Etymology: < classical Latin mala fidēs bad faith < mala , feminine of malus bad (see mal- prefix) + fidēs faith (see faith n. and int.). Compare earlier mala fide adv.; also bona fides n.
Originally and chiefly Law.
Bad faith, intent to deceive.
