Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin madidat-, madidare.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin madidat-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of madidare (4th cent. or earlier; from 13th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin madidus (see madid adj.). N.E.D. (1904) indicates the stress as ˈmadidate.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
