Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin mactātor.
Etymology: Probably < classical Latin mactātor (recorded once only in classical Latin, but attested also in post-classical Latin in John of Garland) < mactāt- , past participial stem of mactāre (see mactate v.) + -or -or suffix. N.E.D. (1904) indicates the stress as macˈtator.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A killer or murderer.
