Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi mahārāṇā.
Etymology: < Hindi mahārāṇā < Sanskrit mahā- great (see mickle adj.) + Hindi rāṇā Rana n.
(The title of) the ruler of Udaipur, a state in India until 1947, when it became part of Rajasthan. Also added as a title to the names of certain Rajput rulers.
