Etymology: < Maori manoao (in both senses).The form monoao , which is frequent in sense (b), results from confusion with monoao n.

Either of two New Zealand coniferous trees of the family Podocarpaceae, both formerly assigned to the same genus, Dacrydium: (a) (originally) the silver pine, Lagarostrobos colensoi (now rare, perhaps obsolete); (b) (in later use) Halocarpus kirkii.
