Etymology: < the name of Carl Mannich (1877–1947), German chemist, who developed the reaction.
Chemistry.
attributive. Designating or relating to the condensation reaction between a primary or secondary amine (usually as the hydrochloride), an aldehyde, and a compound containing an active hydrogen atom, to form a β-amino ketone. Mannich base n. the product of such a reaction.
