Any spine, prickle, burr, etc., borne by a plant or animal; such processes collectively. Also: a spiny or prickly plant, spec. the macaw palm, Acrocomia aculeata. Frequently attributive, esp. in the names of spiny or prickly varieties of plants and animals.
