Used attributively to denote a process of colour photography invented by the Lumière brothers involving a colour screen consisting of a glass plate coated with a mixture of starch grains dyed in the primary colours which was placed in front of the panchromatic emulsion on exposure and for viewing; also applied to plates used in this process.
