Etymology: < low adj. + velocity n.
1. Characterized by a relatively low speed; spec. (a) (of a gun) firing projectiles with a low muzzle velocity; (b) (Geology) designating a layer of rock through which seismic waves pass slowly, esp. an upper layer of the earth's mantle which is inferred to be partially molten.
