1816 H. Koster Trav. Brazil xiv. 300 The louro is a large tree, and of it there are three species, all of which are used principally for the beams of houses, for the timber of them rots quickly under ground.
1914 J. F. Woodroffe Upper Reaches of Amazon xx. 276 The following woods are especially used. Louro (of the family of Lauraceas), found in swampy lands in many qualities, such as the common yellow, black, white, grey, odoriferous cedar, beech and tachi.
1923 Zon & Sparhawk Forest Resources of World vi. 723 The louros in general are the cheapest commercial woods of Brazil, and are widely used for construction, boxes, and cooperage.
