单词 lxx
释义

LXXn.

Forms: 1600s Lxx. (with point), 1600s 1800s– LXX, 1800s–1900s LXX. (with point).
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: classical Latin LXX.
Etymology: < classical Latin LXX, the Roman numeral symbol for ‘seventy’, used as a graphic abbreviation. The Roman numeral is attested in an English context from the Old English period onwards; in early use, before the introduction of Arabic numerals, it is usually to be interpreted as a graphic abbreviation for seventy adj. or seventy n. (rather than for Septuagint n. or its classical Latin etymon). Compare the following early examples of the Roman numeral with reference to the Greek version of the Hebrew Bible or its assumed translators (compare seventy n. 2b):c1180 Notes to Hexateuch (Claud.
