Etymology: < early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic loðinn shaggy, thickly covered in hair (e.g. of a fleece), Old Swedish ludhin , lodhin (Swedish luden ), Old Danish lothæn (Danish lådden )), use as adjective of the past participle of an unattested strong Class II verb cognate with Old English lēodan to grow, spring up (see lede n.¹).

Obsolete.

Hairy, shaggy.
