Etymology: < German Abichit (attributed to J. J. Bernhardi by E. F. Glocker, in Grundriss der Mineral. u. Petrefactenkunde (1839) 579) < the name of Otto Wilhelm Hermann von Abich (1806–86), German mineralogist + -it -ite suffix¹.The precise connection of Abich with the mineral is unclear.
