Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales
(A deferential title for) a Chief Justice in the United Kingdom or (formerly) Great Britain and Ireland; spec. (a) = Chief Justice n. (a) (historical); (b) (now in full Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales) (the title of) the president of the courts and head of the judiciary of England and Wales.The present office was defined by the Constitutional Reform Act of 2005. The earlier full title Lord Chief Justice of England had been made official when the roles of Chief Justice of Queen's Bench and Chief Justice of Common Pleas were combined (see quot. 1883).
