A woodwind instrument of ancient Greece, or a similar instrument in use in some other ancient civilizations.The Greek instrument, formerly often erroneously believed to be a type of flute, is now known to have consisted of a cylindrical or conical tube made usually of wood or ivory, having a single or double reed, and played, usually as one of a pair blown simultaneously, by means of finger holes. In specialist use now generally denoting a pair of such instruments, typically fixed or bound together near the mouthpieces.
