Etymology: < Arawak Lokono, self-designation < loko person + -no , suffix forming plurals and collectives. Compare earlier Arawak n.The form Lukkunu reflects the pronunciation of the etymon in Arawak. With use with reference to the language (see sense A. 2) compare Arawak Lokono dian, literally ‘language of the people’.
