1982 Computerworld 14 June p. 1 d/13 1 Lips is equivalent to 100 to 1,000 instructions per second. Present-generation computers are capable of 104 to 105 Lips.
1984 Listener 1 Nov. 38/4 The machine of the future, ICOT says, will be capable of one billion of those Logical Inferences Per Second (LIPS).
1988 New Scientist 26 Nov. 45/1 PIM is expected to operate at between 100 million logical inferences per second (lips).
