Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: look n., -y suffix6, looky v.
Etymology: Apparently < either look n. + -y suffix6 or looky v., with partial reduplication of the first element. Compare looky, look , imperative, with reduplication for emphasis (compare 1936 at looky v. 1a). Compare looky-look , lookie-look (adjective) that attracts attention (1968 a shop window, or earlier, rare), (noun) person who views property without intention to buy (1988 or earlier). Compare looky here at looky v. 1b.In forms with -lou (especially where this is capitalized) perhaps partly by association with the (male and female) forename Lou ; for similar use of a personal name compare nosy parker n.
