Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek κλίνειν , -al suffix1.
Etymology: < ancient Greek κλίνειν (see -cline comb. form) + -al suffix1. Compare French -cline, German -klin, both forming adjectives. Compare also German -klinal (20th cent.).Formations are found from the first half of the 19th cent. (e.g. anticlinal adj., synclinal adj.).
