Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Augend.
Etymology: < German Augend (1874 or earlier) < classical Latin augendus (short for numerus augendus number to be increased), gerundive of augēre to increase (see auge v.).
Mathematics and Computing.
In a sum: a number regarded as that to which other addends are added, typically the first term in the order in which the addition is carried out.
