Etymology: < the name of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, US (and of its location, the city of Livermore, California), one of the collaborating institutions in the project to synthesize the element + -ium suffix.The city of Livermore is named after the rancher and landowner Robert Livermore (1799–1858), while the laboratory is named after the city and the nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence (1901–58).

A superheavy chemical element, atomic number 116, produced artificially by high-energy atomic collisions. Symbol Lv.Previously given the provisional name ununhexium (see un- comb. form), livermorium was first synthesized (at Dubna, Russia) in 2000, and the name was formally adopted by IUPAC in May 2012. The name moscovium had also been suggested.

2014 New Scientist 12 July 41/2 Thanks to experiments to fabricate elements beyond uranium in the lab, the heaviest atom now officially recognised is livermorium (116).
