Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin lībertīnitās.
Etymology: < classical Latin lībertīnitās condition or status of a freedman (2nd cent. a.d.) < lībertīnus libertine adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).
The condition or status of being an emancipated slave. Cf. libertine adj. 4.
