Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: leprosy n., -philia comb. form.
Etymology: < lepro- (in leprosy n. ) + -philia comb. form. In sense 1 after Brazilian Portuguese leprofilia (1953 in the source of quot. 1953). With sense 2 compare earlier leprophil n. Compare also earlier leprophobia n.
1. Medicine. The desire to have leprosy, or the feigning of leprosy (usually for social reasons or as a manifestation of mental illness; see quots.). Now rare.
