Indian Nations (1876) p. xl Lenni Lenape being the national and proper name of the people we call ‘Delawares’, I have retained this name, or for brevity's sake, called them simply Lenape, as they do themselves in most instances. Their name signifies ‘original people’, a race of human beings who are the same that they were in the beginning, unchanged and unmixed.
