Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Dutch. Partly a borrowing from Balinese. Etymons: Dutch legong; Balinese legong.
Etymology: < Dutch legong girl who performs a dance of this kind (1896 in the passage translated, or earlier), the dance itself (1901 or earlier), and its etymon Balinese legong a form of dance, a girl who performs the dance (19th cent. or earlier; > Indonesian legong).
