Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French legereté.
Etymology: < Middle French legereté (French légèreté ) thoughtlessness, thoughtless action (1150 in Old French as legerté ), lack of seriousness, inconstancy (1170 as legierté ), nimbleness, agility (13th cent. as legierté ) < leger leger adj. + -eté -ity suffix.
1. Lack of proper seriousness or solemnity. Also: capriciousness, inconstancy. Obsolete.
