Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish lechón.
Etymology: < Spanish lechón suckling pig (14th cent.) < leche milk (see dulce de leche n.) + -ón -oon suffix .
Chiefly in Filipino and Latin American cookery: a whole pig roasted on a spit, usually over coals; a dish or portion of this. Cf. lechon asado n.Suckling pigs were originally used for this dish, although medium-sized adult pigs are now more commonly used.
