Etymology: < the name of Peter Lawson (d. 1820) and his son Charles (1794–1873), partners in the firm of Lawson and Son, Edinburgh nurserymen.

Lawson cypress n. (also Lawson's cypress) Chamæcyparis lawsoniana, a conifer from Oregon.First introduced to cultivation by the Lawsons after seeds had been collected in 1854 by Andrew Murray (1812–78), Scottish botanist, who named the tree after them.
