Etymology: < auto- comb. form1 + transfusion n. In sense 1 after French autotransfusion (1876 or earlier) or German Autotransfusion (1875 or earlier).
Medicine.
1. Displacement of blood from the periphery of the body towards the heart and vital organs, esp. by elevation or compression of the limbs; an instance of this.
