Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek αὐτοπτικός.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek αὐτοπτικός of an eyewitness < Byzantine Greek αὔτοπτος self-revealed (although this is apparently first attested later: see autopsy n.) + -ικός -ic suffix. In sense 2 after autopsy n. 2a; compare earlier autopsic adj. Compare French autoptique (1605). Compare earlier autoptical adj.
