Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin languēscent-, languēscēns, languēscere.
Etymology: < classical Latin languēscent-, languēscēns, present participle of languēscere to become weak or feeble, to fall sick, to become apathetic < languēre (see languish v.) + -ēscere (see -escent suffix). N.E.D. (1901) gives the pronunciation as (læŋgwe·sĕnt) /læŋˈɡwɛsənt/.
Obsolete.
Growing faint, weak, or languid.
