Origin: A borrowing from Yiddish. Etymon: Yiddish landsman.
Etymology: < Yiddish landsman < Middle High German lantsman (also lantman ) native (see landman n.). Compare earlier landman n. 1.
In Jewish usage: a Jewish person who has emigrated, or whose family has emigrated, from the same country as another specified person; a fellow countryman, a compatriot.
