A young woman characterized by her enjoyment of social drinking, sport, or other activities typically considered to be male-oriented, and often by attitudes or behaviour regarded as irresponsible or brash; (usually) one of a close-knit social group. Cf. lad n.1 Additions.

1995 Sunday Times (Nexis) 19 Feb. When the advertising agency Collett Dickenson Pearce compiled a marketing study called A Portrait of Lads, it found that 550,000 of the 2m young adults who fitted the criteria of being single, drinking more than eight pints a week, and having laddish attitudes, were female. So, is there a new generation of ladettes, or faux-blokes?
