Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin labrum.
Etymology: < classical Latin labrum lip, rim, brim, brink, edge, in scientific Latin also in conchology (1767 in Linnaeus, or earlier) and entomology (1801 or earlier) < the stem of labium labium n. + -rum, suffix forming nouns.
1. Anatomy. The fibrocartilaginous lip of the socket of certain joints, esp. the acetabulum of the hip bone or the glenoid cavity of the scapula.
