Etymology: < the name of Labrador (see Labrador n.) + -ian suffix. With use as noun compare French labradorien (1803 or earlier).In sense B. 2a the application was perhaps influenced by labradorite n., the mineral being prevalent in these rocks. With form Labradorean compare -ean suffix.
