Etymology: < labile adj. + -ization suffix, after German Labilisierung (end of the 19th cent. or earlier as Labilisirung , from 1906 or earlier in a chemistry context; 1914 in the paper abstracted in quot. 1914). Compare earlier labilized adj. and slightly later labilize v.
Chiefly Chemistry.
The action of making a substance, bond, etc., labile (labile adj. 2); the process of becoming labile; an instance of this.
