单词 labies
释义

labiesn.

Forms: 1500s labyes, 1500s–1600s labies.
Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin labia, labium, English -s.
Etymology: Apparently < classical Latin labia, plural of labium lip (see labium n.) + English -s, plural ending, showing adoption of the stem of the Latin word as a naturalized English word. (Alternatively, the declensional class of the Latin word may have been misapprehended, and -es regarded as its Latin plural inflection.) Compare labium n.Compare Old Occitan labias edges of a wound or sore, Middle French, French †labie lip (16th cent.).
Obsolete. rare.
1. The edges of a wound or sore. Cf. lip n. 5a.
