Origin: A borrowing from Arawak. Etymon: Arawak laba.
Etymology: < Arawak laba, labba.Between vowels, b and p sound similar in Arawak and were apparently heard differently by English speakers in different regions, respectively leading to the α. and β. forms.
Chiefly Guyana and Trinidad.
A large neotropical rodent, Cuniculus paca, related to the agoutis and valued for its meat; = paca n.
